The Little Black Bag Edit
Reliable Accessorizing.
It hit me a couple days ago that I certainly have a thing for LBBs (little black bags), and it has been on my mind since to break down the science here. Each one fits a specific need or function for me. I won’t say that the collection is complete, but that at this moment my needs are satisfied.
Let’s start with my most functional every day bag. A few years ago I was yearning for something to just throw on and run out the door. In New York, I am walking everywhere and I needed something that felt almost sporty. This bag meets all that criteria. It has a Mary Poppins-esque effect and I leverage that spaciousness every time. I must add — I see the large size of this bag recommended a lot and I cannot advocate enough for the small size. It fits just the right amount, it gives me flexibility to run all day long, and I personally like the look of this size proportionally so much more than the large size. Just my two cents!
Next in the roster is a new addition. Less of a logic driven purchase, more of an emotional commitment. I saw this cutie at my favorite spot to shop in Tribeca and didn’t think twice about it. I am realizing now that it is pretty sold out but here are some cute alternatives that would do the job — this one, this, or this. This one is called the Sally Bag and has already been out on the town with me multiple times. It fits just a phone, credit card, and lip oil which is kind of my dream come true.
In the world of tiny bags, one I rely on most is this one. I love that I don’t have to think much about it when styling because it goes with everything.
My recent obsession is this little black nylon bag. It is from a brand that I would like to buy one of everything from. I am eyeing a cute little pink one that I saw on their instagram that should come out in a couple months. The long straps are great to go over sweaters and coats while still keeping the footprint of the purse small. The mix of materials, satin nylon and leather trimming gives it a little bit of a detail without stealing the show.
Next up is a tender piece for me. A gift from my mom about a decade ago now, this bag has lived so many lives with me. Just the right size, I love to wear it like a sling across my body. The hardware is subtle but acts like jewelry. Over a slouchy sweater or dress it plays with the fabric and can add shape that is fun for styling. I never wear it down at my hip level, I have the chain wrapped a couple times to make it shorter around my torso. This is less about this bag specifically but more about the preciousness of a good gift from someone you love or for yourself.
Last in the lineup is a perfect shoulder bag that is a bit of an icon these days. The sharp lines of this bag counteract a lot of the slouchiness in the rest of the collection. It is rigid and refined. It goes with everything. And it feels so good to take a lipstick out of.
If you made it this far, thanks for reading. Love you bunches.
